Finding the incentive to workout is often a challenge so we set out to create an inspiring, vibrant and cheeky fitness space for a client in their lower level. We call it the “funky spa” because it is just that. An unexpected room with a wall full of fun and colourful prints, treadmill, chair, sauna (not shown) and quirky details throughout. It’s the perfect go-to space when it’s too cold outside and you’re fighting with your motivation to workout.
Giving kids a space to call their own is an important part of growing up, however with how fast they change their minds, tastes and sprout like weeds, it’s hard to commit to decor. Achieving a stylish and personal yet, price conscious space is the challenge put forth for most. With lighting a little more permanent we narrowed the search to provide budget friendly, stylish and versatile fixture options that won’t break the bank and still provide the cool factor criteria.

The satisfaction of completing a project is always huge. Seeing your clients requests along with your vision come together is the most rewarding outcome of the interior design process. Our criteria was to create a home office for after hours work, bookkeeping and homework for the kids. The space for certain pieces of equipment in the space as well as ample storage for files required a thoughtful approach to managing the balance of function and aesthetic. We set out to create a warm, clean and modern home office with plenty of interest in this already light filled space.
It started with this conceptual inspiration (above) and a bare bones room (below) ready for style and organization to take control.
The result is a warm, modern and specifically tailored space, full of light, ample storage and work space for the whole family.

Last year at High Point I noticed a resurgence of feathers in the world of accessories. Whether wall decor, light fixtures, pillows or furniture, feathers are finding their way into our homes in a fashionable way. It’s the type of look where a little goes a long way. So adding one element of this trend is enough for just the right amount of impact. Which one would you choose? “No matter where you make your nest, it’s how you feather it that makes the difference”
Trays are one of the most functional accessories out there. We use them in almost every project and sometimes in multiple spaces. Versatile and beautiful this product doesn’t require storing when not being used. Its stand alone quality works well on display or fill it with your favourite small accessories when it’s “off duty”.
2015 was an exciting year. We grew, we learned, we were inspired and we embarked on some fabulous projects that will come to life in 2016. Looking back it’s hard to decide our favourites however these five were our standout highlights.
1. A visit to Highpoint furniture market was truly an incredible experience. Seeing product first hand and inspiring showrooms was definitely worth while.
2. If you’ve been following us on our social media platforms you may already be familiar with our country house project. Here it is in framing stage…estimated completion summer 2016.
3. Our Vancouver condo project was featured in Western Living CONDO!
4. We participated in the inaugural Dinner X Design event in Calgary and had an amazing time with everything from the inspiration and execution all the way to the cocktail and dining event.
5. We are now a team of four! Jackie Reid and Alex Ollenberger, both graduates of Mount Royal University Interior Design program, have joined us full time. We are thrilled to have them both on board.
2016 is off to a great start and we can’t wait to stay connected and share more of our great goings on in and around the office.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! from all of us.
For years now we have been decorating the home of one of our clients for Christmas. It’s become a highlight of the season as we embrace a 14′ live tree with hundreds of lights, and add festive touches to an otherwise modern home. With classical Christmas music playing in the background, the warmth and glow of the fireplace and beautiful decor surrounding us… need I say more. It certainly makes for a wonderful few days!
Admittedly, I’m a bit of a paper geek. I love wrapping presents and the creative, hands on approach to giving a beautifully wrapped gift. This year we chose a natural elegant feel with our signature Nyla Free Designs yellow as an accent of colour. Alex also added a DIY to our wrapping paper scheme with white swirls on a matter copper paper. So easy and pretty!
It’s a tradition of mine to make caramels which is part of our gifting and seems to have become a sought after treat for all. Here is a peak at some of our wrapping and packaging for Christmas 2015.
In the spirit of the season, gift giving is at it’s peak, and with holiday parties filling our calendars it’s essential to be prepared as you head out the door. It’s not just about the dress, shoes and makeup anymore. Adorning yourself with a thoughtful gift to thank the hostess is wonderful to present upon your arrival. We’ve put together a few ideal gift ideas for the hostess with the most-ess. I’m going to stock up right now!
